The Filmmuseum

The Filmmuseum will trade in its current location in the Vondelpark for a prominent place in Overhoeks, right on the IJ. The new building will house four film theatres respectively seating 300, 120, 120, and 80 people. By moving to Overhoeks, the Film Museum will be able to significantly increase its presentation possibilities. The new Filmmuseum is expected to open its doors in 2009.

Collection

The Filmmuseum is the museum of cinematography in the Netherlands. The museum’s film collection covers the entire history of film from the first silent films dating back to the late 19th century up to the latest contemporary digital productions.
The museum’s international renowned collection, to which many Dutch and foreign titles are added regularly, is the source of inspiration for film programmes, exhibitions and events. Every year, there are major thematic programmes exploring film history and contemporary cinematographic developments. As well, the museum organises open-air screenings, festivals, theatrical family shows and retrospectives.

The museum has a collection that includes 35,000 films, 35,000 posters and 400,000 photographs from 1896 until today. The museum also acts as a distributor of classics and contemporary independent films. For more information visit www.filmmuseum.nl
